Product design for a customer developing hydrogen compression solutions, USA and Finland. We are moving away from Quartz, towards sapphire for high pressure applications. Handling, slight impacts, all that affects quartz performance at pressure. Over time quartz may creep and loose its mechanical strength.
Sight window housing optimization using finite element analysis. Several runs were made for different materials and geometries. von Mises stress distribution is shown. Housing material is 17-4PH. Boundary conditions are set as fixed at the edges of mounting bolt holes. Force is applied to the landing surface inside the housing. | Photo credit: Encole LLC
